Is almost here. Hard to believe that in one week we will be saying goodbye to our first home. It has been a little sad as we pack up our things and get ready for our next chapter. I clearly remember talking to my aunt on the phone almost 6 years ago when she said "if you know anyone looking for a good, old house, the Field's are going to be selling Art and Alice Ann's house." I asked my mom about it and it seemed like it was in a good location for where Jason's office was and not a bad drive from school. We looked at it and that's when Jason knew he was in trouble as he watched me fall in love he saw many projects in his future. We bought the house and saw the potential in house that hadn't been cared for in a number of years.
We worked our butts off for 3 months. No, we didn't stop. Everyday we worked. We worked on New year's eve, we worked during Colts games and worked until we got married on March 31, 2007. This is the house we opened our wedding gifts. Got in our first fight. Made up and said i'm sorry. Worked hard and saved money as a married couple to save for things like pavers, glass block windows, landscaping projects, new blinds, the list goes on. This is where we found out we were going to have a baby. The house where we didn't sleep the night before we became parents. Where we came home with our first born and looked at each other as new parents do when they walk in the house with a new born and think "how did we get so lucky, but what do we do now?" Where we decorated for Christmas and did everything we could to make our own traditions. This is the house where we worked together on "some assembly required" items and lost more screws in the wall than we could ever count. Where we cussed more while hanging up a wine rack than any other project to date.
This is the house that gave me a connection to my grandparents. See, my grandparents were friends with the original owners and my grandpa worked on projects with Art. So when we found wire buried in the yard or a screw driver in the wall I couldn't get too mad knowing who might have helped.
The same house we found out we were going to be parents again and started to panic about space. Moved rooms. To move rooms again, because I couldn't handle having zero closet space and not much room to move around the bed and dressers. Where we brought Anna home and Maggie became a big sister. Where we came home after vacations and thought "ah, it feels good to be home!" Where I tried to be a good cook and experimented with recipes that either turned out alright or "might not need to make that one again". For the record there have only been two meals that we couldn't even choke down...ham and beans and a store bought crock pot bag of beef stroganoff. My goodness they were so bad!
The same 1700 square feet that would throw a $1,000 expense at us without blinking and the only sympathy we would get was "the joys of being homeowners". But still we loved this house and it loved us back. It's a good house with character and family connections that we probably won't ever have the chance to have again.
The same house where I said "Jason, you need to come here and see this" for the third time as we found out we would be having a third baby. Where the girls played in the back yard and ran through the sprinkler. And walked to church on Sunday mornings. Whatever memories I mention it doesn't seem like enough because as we pack up I become overwhelmed with emotions and can't believe how far we've come! So, as we pack up our last few boxes and load up the truck it will be with the joy of finding our next stop, but with a little sadness as we say goodbye to where we made our first house a home!
P.S. Good luck getting the polka dots down off the walls in the girls room. We put those up with a great amount of care. And by care, I mean nails and glue :)

See, I said it wouldn't be enough...our families helped us so much! Whether it was putting down tile, fixing the stairs or painting we had a great deal if help along the way. Thank you!
